Program to help older adults with substance use comes to Lawrence County

NEW CASTLE, Pa. (WKBN) – A new program in Pennsylvania can provide meaningful benefits to older adults, and it’s starting in Lawrence County.

The launch of WISE — Wellness Initiative for Senior Education — came at Challenges, which is an Options in Aging facility near New Castle.

Lawrence County is one of four counties across the state involved in the pilot program for WISE. The program focuses on substance use prevention and wellness.

The program quickly caught the attention of Agency on Aging Administrator Amy Cervone during a state meeting in October.

“However, after hearing the presentation, I was actually impressed. I followed the presenters and let them know, and handed them my card and said, ‘Lawrence County wants to be part of this pilot,’” Cervone said.
