From Hope to Stability
Celebrating Compassion, Service, Humility, and Philanthropy
For years, our community gathered for the Bishop’s Dinner and later Hope from Home. Today, we move forward as the Bridge to Stability Campaign. While our name has evolved, our purpose remains steadfast: we aren’t just providing temporary relief; we are building a permanent path from crisis to self-sufficiency for our neighbors in Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Greene, Lawrence, and Washington counties.
2026 Caritas Awards
At the heart of this campaign are the Caritas Awards. A long-standing tradition at Catholic Charities, these awards honor those who lead with a “servant’s heart.” While these honors have recognized regional leaders for decades, we find their deepest meaning reflected in the spirit of Pope Benedict XVI’s Caritas in Veritate (Charity in Truth): the call to desire the good of others and take effective steps to secure it.
This year, we celebrate four leaders whose lives exemplify this “effective charity.” The Caritas Award is bestowed upon those who manifest four essential virtues:
- Compassion
- Service
- Humility
- Philanthropy

2026 Caritas Award Honorees
Hoddy Hanna
Howard W. “Hoddy” Hanna III, chairman of the largest private real estate company in the United States, is known as a man of steadfast determination and integrity. Throughout his impressive career growing Howard Hanna Real Estate Services, a family-owned company with three generations of the Hanna family involved, he has continued to give back to the Pittsburgh community in inspirational ways.
Getting his real estate license at 18 and following in his father’s footsteps, Hanna began his real estate career as a summer sales associate for Howard Hanna while attending John Carroll University in Cleveland, Ohio. The business expanded and diversified under Hanna’s leadership, and he became an important influence in the real estate community and an industry leader.
His innovation in the industry is renowned, and he has always been known as the idea man, brimming with energy and charisma. Howard Hanna Real Estate Services was among the first in the country to launch a weekly television program showcasing homes listed for sale and is the only real estate company in the nation to offer a “100% Money Back Guarantee,” and the first large company to digitally offer all of its listings on the internet in 1996. Howard Hanna has been delivering a fully integrated home buying experience since 1981 through Mortgage, Title, Relocation, and Insurance services.
Very active in the community, he currently serves several nonprofit boards and recently co-chaired the historic Catholic Charities’ Campaign for Compassion Corner.
Jack McGinley
Jack McGinley is a champion of the Pittsburgh region and has made a meaningful impact through his professional career, his philanthropy, and his nonprofit service.
He is a trial attorney with more than 45 years of legal experience. He concentrates his practice in corporate, business, real estate, and professional liability matters. He also has significant experience in handling matters on behalf of nonprofit organizations.
Jack previously served in the public sector as an assistant district attorney of Allegheny County. He later co-founded the firm Grogan Graffam McGinley, P.C., where he practiced for more than 30 years before joining Eckert Seamans as an equity partner in 2002.
Throughout his legal career, he has successfully tried numerous high profile cases to verdict. He also chaired the Independent Regulatory Review Commission of Pennsylvania for more than 10 years and is a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County.
Jack has complemented his legal career with various business interests and service to many nonprofit corporations. Jack currently serves as chair of Duquesne University’s board of directors, an emeritus trustee at St. Bonaventure University (where he also previously chaired the board of trustees), chair of the Rita McGinley Foundation, and chair of The Pittsburgh Foundation. He is the former board chair of Pittsburgh Mercy Hospital, which he led through its joiner with UPMC.
Susie Shipley
Susie Shipley has made significant contributions to Southwestern PA through her 25 years of professional leadership, service to nonprofits, and in her community centered approach to everything she does.
As President of Huntington Bank’s Pennsylvania, Ohio Valley, and Mahoning Valley Region, Susie and her team have delivered impressive growth and a dramatic cultural shift keenly focused on the customer, community, and colleague experience.
Susie has given back to the community in countless ways. During her eight-year tenure as Chair of the Port of Pittsburgh Commission, she secured billions in federal funding to effectively leverage the region’s waterways for economic development and job creation. She serves several nonprofit boards and recently co-chaired the historic Catholic Charities’ Campaign for Compassion Corner. She has also led local efforts for Huntington’s partnership with The Ron Clark Academy.
Susie has been the recipient of multiple community recognitions including Pittsburgh Business Times POWER 100 recipient five times, the 2025 Pittsburgh Business Times Woman of Influence, the 2025 recipient of the Pennsylvania Bankers Patricia A. Husic Woman of Influence Award, a Distinguished Alumna of the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business, a Best 50 Women in Business in Pennsylvania, a Woman of Distinction in Business by the Girl Scouts of Western Pennsylvania, an Oakland Catholic Leading Lady and an Athena International Finalist. She is a Rotary Foundation International Scholarship recipient and a Rotary International Foundation Paul Harris Fellow.

David A. Zubik
Bishop Emeritus David A. Zubik has dedicated his life to the service of others. As the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh for 18 years, he shepherded the Church and its outreaches impacting the lives of many in our region.
He was ordained a priest in 1975 and during his early priestly assignments, also earned a master’s degree in education administration from Duquesne University. He also served as adjunct spiritual director at Saint Paul Seminary and associate spiritual director at Saint Vincent Seminary. He held several administrative appointments in diocesan central administration before being consecrated a bishop on April 6, 1997, at Saint Paul Cathedral and being appointed auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.
In 2003, Pope John Paul II, named him as the Eleventh Bishop of the Diocese of Green Bay in Wisconsin.
In 2007, he was named by Pope Benedict XVI as the Twelfth Bishop of Pittsburgh.
Bishop Zubik became Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Pittsburgh in July 2025 when his letter of retirement was accepted by Pope Leo XIV.
In his retirement, he serves many boards, advancing the work of the Catholic Church. He also volunteers weekly in service to clients of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. In addition to his volunteer work, he provides spiritual direction at Saint Vincent College in Latrobe and continues to celebrate Mass, filling in at four parishes throughout the Pittsburgh area.

Perry Napolitano
Campaign Chair
Perry is a partner at Reed Smith and chairs the firm’s Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group. He focuses on complex commercial litigation, including class actions and financial services disputes, and has represented clients in courts across the country. Perry also advises on risk management and corporate governance issues. In addition to his legal practice, he has lectured on litigation topics at local law schools and frequently speaks on attorney-client privilege and related subjects.
