Red Door Ministry Moves Operations Indoors in Collaboration with Catholic Charities

Sacred Heart of Jesus

During the week of January 26, 2026, the Red Door Ministry moved its food distribution into Catholic Charities’ downtown hub at 111 Boulevard of the Allies. Catholic Charities recently renovated their first-floor space to welcome guests served by the Red Door Ministry, which is operated by Divine Mercy Parish under the leadership of Fr. Nick Vaskov. This collaborative effort has been in the making since Catholic Charities relocated to the location on the Boulevard of the Allies, which neighbors the Red Door and St. Mary’s of Mercy Church, part of Divine Mercy Parish.

The two organizations will work in collaboration to bring people into an indoor, dignified space and increase their collective impact on vulnerable neighbors living in homelessness and economic instability.  Specifically, Red Door will continue to operate and staff meal services during their established daily times and Catholic Charities will provide supportive services to Red Door guests to create pathways to stable housing, free health care, mental health services, and other basic needs support with the intent of helping them achieve greater stability for the future. Catholic Charities will have Crisis Case Management Professionals in the dining facility to build relationships and to assist clients in enrolling in services during Red Door hours of operation.

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Pittsburgh

Since its inception in 1910, Catholic Charities in Pittsburgh has been a resource for those in need. Throughout a century of service, Catholic Charities has evolved, growing outreach beyond transactional one-time assistance to providing long-term solutions for clients through a holistic continuum of care.

Red Door Ministry

The Red Door ministry began during the Great Depression era. From its humble beginnings of serving a simple meal, it has greatly grown over the years to meet the needs of our brothers and sisters in need in the Pittsburgh area.
