Core Principle
Solidarity is our Gospel-rooted commitment to love one another as one human family. As Pope John Paul II teaches (Sollicitudo Rei Socialis), it’s more than sentiment—it’s a virtue that moves us to act, recognizing each person not as “other,” but as neighbor.
This call becomes especially concrete in the work of housing and shelter. Sharing resources and walking with the unhoused is a powerful expression of solidarity. In this Jubilee Year, we are invited not just to serve, but to accompany—to stand beside those who suffer, and help build systems rooted in dignity and justice.
Scriptural Reflection
Is this not, rather, the fast that I choose: releasing those bound unjustly … Is it not sharing your bread with the hungry, bringing the afflicted and the homeless into your house?

Prayer & Petition
Merciful Father,
You call us to be one body in Christ, joined not by convenience but by compassion. Open our hearts to those in need of shelter, hope, and dignity. Strengthen our outreach and deepen our unity.
We offer these intentions:
- For all without safe housing—may they find stability, community, and care through the efforts of ministries in Allegheny and Butler Counties
- For those facing eviction, addiction, mental illness, or systemic barriers—may creative paths open, and support be sustained
- For St. Joseph House of Hospitality and all those working to accompany the unhoused—may their work reflect your mercy
- In thanksgiving for those administering emergency housing, rental assistance, and life-giving support across our region
- For Bishop Mark Eckman, our new Board Chair; Fr. Thomas Kunz, newly appointed to our Member Board; and Fr. Nick Argentieri, our new Chaplain—may their leadership and spiritual guidance help us walk more faithfully in service, solidarity, and communion.
- That solidarity may shape not just programs, but the culture of Catholic Charities—drawing all people into communion with Christ, who had nowhere to lay His head, yet made His heart a home for all.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
