More Than a Change of Clothes

A person holds a bundle of colorful clothes, illuminated by warm natural light. The image conveys a sense of simplicity and everyday life, highlighting fabric textures and calming ambiance.

At first, it seemed simple—a client experiencing homelessness came to Catholic Charities several times seeking clothing. Each time, our team gladly helped, offering clean shirts, pants, and socks. But one day, a caseworker gently asked, “Is there something more we can help with?”

That small question opened the door to something deeper.

The client quietly shared that they were struggling with incontinence and had no access to laundry services. Out of necessity—and dignity—they were discarding soiled clothes and returning for new ones.

In that moment, we were able to do more than hand out clothing. We offered a way to wash what they had. We made sure they knew that cleanliness resources were available—and that they didn’t have to face this alone. The client was overwhelmed with gratitude. And we were reminded that when we take time to truly see someone, healing can begin with something as simple as a load of laundry. Thank you for helping us meet real needs with compassion and respect.
