Charity in Truth

2026 Caritas Award
The Bridge to Stability Campaign is anchored by the Caritas Award—a tradition at Catholic Charities that honors those who lead with a servant’s heart. While these honors have recognized regional leaders for decades, we find their deepest meaning reflected in the spirit of Pope Benedict XVI’s Caritas in Veritate (Charity in Truth): the call to desire the good of others and take effective steps to secure it.
In Pittsburgh, we know that a bridge is only as strong as the materials used to build it. We seek out leaders who manifest four essential virtues. These are the steel and suspension cables that hold our mission together:
  • Compassion: Moving beyond sympathy to take decisive action for those who suffer.
  • Service: The consistent sacrifice of time and resources for the good of the community.
  • Humility: Serving with a heart of respect that seeks the dignity of others over personal recognition.
  • Philanthropy: A lifetime of extraordinary generosity that provides the foundation for our region’s stability.
These attributes define the leaders who help us bridge the gap between crisis and resilience.
Coming Next Week: We are honored to reveal the four incredible 2026 honorees who exemplify these virtues.
