Catholic Charities Day

WHEREAS, Catholic Charities has collaborated with trusted human services partners to offer options for women escaping domestic violence and facing homelessness in downtown Pittsburgh; and,

WHEREAS, understanding that neglect and violence threatens well-being on multiple levels, they work to find solutions for issues including, but not limited to Restoration of dignity, securing replacement identification, Crisis intervention, Safe and stable housing, Basic essentials, Emotional well-being, Life Skills and Job skills training and Medical and Dental health; and,

WHEREAS, recognizing that pregnant women are among the most-vulnerable and at-risk members of our communities, Catholic Charities also provides essential baby supplies and supportive counseling; and,

WHEREAS, on November 21, 2024, Catholic Charities will host the Grand Opening of Compassion Corner in Downtown Pittsburgh, which will serve as a point of service to provide immediate aid, resources and appropriate referrals in order to guide those in distress along paths toward long-term self-sufficiency; and,

WHEREAS, for more than 115 years, Catholic Charities has served the Diocese of Pittsburgh and has welcomed any person in distress regardless of background or story, prioritizing immediate need, especially those at risk of harm. Within the context of emotional and physical safety, they then reframe each need as an invitation to partner with them on a path to stability and empowerment; and, 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month and honor Catholic Charities for their work they do in protecting victims of Domestic Violence and other crisis situations; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, October 22, 2024 to be “Catholic Charities Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
