Volunteer Meal Programs
Gather friends and give back to the community by supporting St. Joseph House of Hospitality through one of our meal programs.
Dinner with Friends
Prepare a meal for the 60 residents who reside at St. Joseph House of Hospitality utilizing our well-equipped commercial kitchen. Groups are allowed up to a maximum of 10 individuals at one time and must be 18 years of age or older. Criminal background clearances are required.
Dinner with Friends is offered on Saturdays. Time commitment is four hours from 2 - 6pm.
St. Joseph House of Hospitality is located at 1635 Bedford Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15219. Parking is available on the premises.
Prior to your Dinner with Friends Experiences
- Sign up for Dinner with Friends by contacting Bethany Young, Community Outreach and Parish Officers at byoung@ccpgh.org or 412-456-6968.
- Prepare a menu. Click here for suggestions, but feel free to prepare a menu that is not on the suggested list.
- Turn in Criminal Background Clearances. Clearances are free for volunteers to obtain. Click here to begin the process.
- Time for shopping!
Dinner with Friends Experience
- Bring the food items to St. Joseph House of Hospitality
- Cook the food (A St. Joe’s chef will also be onsite to assist you as needed.)
- Time to serve and have fellowship with the St. Joe’s residents! Your group can also eat the meal with the residents.
- Augment you time with at St. Joe’s by adding a game of Bingo, Music, or fellowship with the residents either prior to or following dinner. (Optional)
Following your Dinner with Friends Experience
- A short survey form will be sent to you for feedback on experience.
Cook with Chef
Cook with Chef is a wonderful opportunity for an intimate group (1-6 people) who would like to become more comfortable in the kitchen while giving back to the community. To help offset food expenses a donation of $250 is required.
Cook with Chef is offered Monday through Saturday. Time commitment is three hours, from 3 - 6pm. Criminal background clearances are required.
Prior to your Cook with Chef Experience
- Sign up for Cook with Chef by contacting Bethany Young, Community Outreach and Parish Officers at byoung@ccpgh.org or 412-456-6968.
- Turn in Criminal Background Clearances. Clearances are free for volunteers to obtain. Click here to begin the process.
- Personalize your menu choices with Chef, and everything will be ready for you to help prepare and serve a nutritious meal for our residents.
- Provide a donation of $250 to offset food expenses.
Day of Your Cook with Chef Experience
- We make the rest easy. Come eager to learn and enjoy time with those we serve.
- We will take care of the details including food, cookware and instruction from our St. Joe’s Chef.
Following your Cook with Chef Experience

Sandwich Blessings
Our Sandwich Blessing program welcomes groups to prepare a sandwich meal offsite and drop it of at St. Joseph House of Hospitality. Drop offs are Saturday before 3pm and Sunday morning before 12pm. Sandwich meals need to be prepared in an approved commercial kitchen and each meal should be individually wrapped in a brown bag. Click here for a list of sample sandwich meals.
