January 2025 - Dignity of the Human Person
The Catholic Church teaches that every human being is created in the image and likeness of God and therefore possesses inherent and inviolable dignity. This principle emphasizes the importance of respecting the life and rights of all individuals, regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion, social status, or any other condition.
'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.'
The second is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”
Mark 12:30-31
Almighty God, our Creator,
As we begin this new year, we come before You, mindful of Your teaching on the Dignity of the Human Person.
- Inspire us to treat every person with the love and respect we desire for ourselves.
- Help us to recognize the inherent worth of each individual and to stand against all forms of discrimination and injustice.
- Grant strength and courage to those who are marginalized and oppressed.
- Guide us to advocate for policies and systems that uphold the rights and dignity of all.
- Open our hearts to see the face of Christ in every person we encounter.
- Bless our efforts to build a more just and equitable world, where the dignity of every human life is honored and protected.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
