November 2024 - Rights and Responsibilities
The Catholic Church teaches that every person possesses inherent dignity, which translates into fundamental rights. These rights, however, are not absolute but come with corresponding responsibilities. A just and harmonious society requires a balance between individual rights and shared obligations.
He said to him, “You shall love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.
Matthew 22:37-39
Almighty God, source of all rights and responsibilities,
We come before You, mindful of the teachings of Your Son, Jesus Christ, who calls us to love our neighbor and work for a just and compassionate world.
- Grant strength and resilience to those whose fundamental rights have been violated.
- Guide those in need to resources for support.
- Inspire us to fulfill our responsibilities with compassion, healing, and hope.
- Grant wisdom to those in positions of leadership, that they may create policies and structures that promote justice for all.
- Open our hearts to be instruments of Your love.
- Bless our efforts to build a community of respect and dignity, where individual rights and shared responsibilities create a society that reflects Your love and justice.
We ask this through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord. Amen.
