November 2023 – Solidarity
We are one human family whatever our national, racial, ethnic, economic, and ideological differences. We are our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers, wherever they may be. At the core of the virtue of solidarity is the pursuit of justice and peace. Solidarity is more than engaging in random acts of kindness. It is about truly being a community in thought and action. It means combatting poverty, lack of shelter, and inequality. Our love for all our brothers and sisters demands that we promote peace in a world surrounded by violence and conflict.
The way we came to know love was that he laid down his life for us; so we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If someone who has worldly means sees a brother in need and refuses him compassion, how can the love of God remain in him? Children, let us love not in word or speech but in deed and truth.
1 John 3:16-18
Almighty ever-living God,
Increase our faith, hope and charity, and make us love what you command, so that we may merit what you promise.
- Open our eyes to see the needs of this community
- Cleanse our ears to hear the cries of the poor
- Anoint our hands and feet to be instruments in fulfilling your justice
- Lead those in need to Catholic Charities for encouragement and help
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever.
