For those planning on borrowing a gun for the shoot\, this matter is of no concern. But for those planning on bringing their own shotgun\, there are several issues that are important to be aware of.\nOlder Shotguns: Older shotguns\, especially those made before the late 1980s\, may not have barrels that are proofed for steel shot. It’s crucial to check with the manufacturer or a qualified gunsmith before using steel in older guns to ensure they can handle the pressure.\nChoke Constriction: Modern shotguns with modified or more open chokes are generally recommended for steel shot. But even in these cases\, it is important to check the chokes for markings that indicate that they are approved for steel. Any constriction beyond modified: Full\, LT Full\, Improved Modified\, etc\, should be avoided.
