HOUSING AND HOMELESS ASSISTANCE
Catholic Charities offers a housing and homeless assistance program for residents in Butler County through the agency’s Butler County office, and for older homeless men 50+ through St. Joseph House of Hospitality located in Pittsburgh’s Hill District.
BUTLER COUNTY OFFICE
The Butler County Office of Catholic Charities is the first point of contact for homeless assistance in Butler County. The staff evaluates each individual and determines the appropriate program or community resource to assist them. Housing and support are provided in a variety of ways.
Safe Harbor Program
The Safe Harbor Program provides temporary accommodations and supportive services to homeless individuals and families who are motivated to become self-sufficient. Once accepted to the program, participants:
- live in one of five apartments at Catholic Charities Butler County Office location
- have a limited 60-day stay where they will gather the resources to receive an income, either through employment, SSI or public assistance, and locate affordable housing
- work intensively with Catholic Charities staff in a “hands-on” life-skills training center that is equipped with computers to help prepare them for employment, and a kitchen and washer and dryer to help them learn how to manage a household
Participants also have access to the full spectrum of Catholic Charities’ services including parenting support, emergency basic needs assistance, and referrals to a community network of social services agencies throughout Butler County.
HOPE Program
The HOPE Program provides housing for chronically homeless individuals with mental health and/or drug and alcohol issues. Each participant is provided housing in one of 18 one-bedroom apartments in the community. Catholic Charities also provides on-site, life-skills services to participants.
PATH Transitional-Age Project for Young Adults
PATH provides permanent supportive housing for homeless 18 to 24-year-olds with co-occurring mental health and drug and alcohol issues. The program provides rental subsidies, vocational and education assistance and life-skills training.
