Sample Bequest Language

You may make a bequest to Catholic Charities in your will itself or by adding a codicil to your present will. Bequests to Catholic Charities may be of cash, securities, or other property. Bequests of all sizes are welcome, whether they are outright, contingent, or residual.

When you decide to make a bequest to Catholic Charities, the following language may be useful to your attorney:

• Specific Bequest:
  "I give Catholic Charities, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, the sum of $ ________________
  [to be used by that organization for its general purposes or you may specify the purpose]."
• Residual Bequest:
  "I give Catholic Charities, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, _________ percent of the residue of my estate
  [to be used by that organization for its general purposes or you may specify the purpose]."
• Contingent Bequest:
  "In the event that ________________________________ predeceases me,
  I give Catholic Charities, Pittsburgh, PA 15222, the sum of $ ____________
  (or, alternatively, ___________ percent of the residue of my estate)
  [to be used by that organization for its general purposes or you may specify the purpose]."
